July Card Workshop

We've all looked at the complements that go with the paper packets.  Well, this month we'll be using one to create cards.  You'll make 5 cards utilizing the Stella paper packet, Stella complements Canvas Shapes, and the new 8"x3.5" die cut cards.  No stamping required!

Cost for this workshop will be $12 which will include pre-cut paper, cards and envelopes, and your own Stella Complements Canvas Shapes to make 5 cards.  You'll have extra canvas shapes to make more cards at home too.

Workshop dates are Monday July 23 and Tuesday July 24 from 7 to 9pm at my house.  Please RSVP by July 11th if you'd like to come or if you'd like a kit (or additional kits).  See you soon!

April 2012 Workshop Thank You Note

My April 2012 workshop featured Lisa Stenz's card box and my cards.  We used Pemberley paper and the Card Word Puzzle stamp set for the workshop.  To follow up with those themes, I created a 3"x3" card for those who ordered from me.

Originals: Stage Right
This card came from Originals card confidence program (I LOVE this tool) on page 122.  The card base is Olive cardstock with Desert Sand providing the strip.  The flower is stamped with Outdoor Denim on Colonial White and colored with our watercolor pencils.  The leaves are stamped in Olive on Garden Green cardstock.  "Just Because" is stamped in Outdoor Denim and comes from Card Word Puzzle.  The edges are distressed by direct to paper with the corresponding cardstock ink color.

How do I do direct to paper?  Open your ink pad and directly swipe it against your paper.  Depending on the angle you hold the paper (or ink pad) will determine how much ink you get on the paper.  Remember my May stamp of the month sample?  I rubbed the Olive ink pad along the entire paper to achieve that look.  You should try it!

Modification Fits the Bill

On the May/June 2012 "Paper Craft" Magazine cover is a Father's day card for someone in the military.  It has dog tags hanging from the top with a strip of paper under that with the word "HERO" on it.  And under that are 4 square pieces of background and texture paper.  I REALLY like the card.

I also really liked the look, but since I don't have anyone in the military and Mother's Day and Teacher Appreciation was coming up, I decided to modify the card to suit my needs.  I did just that!

Mother's Day was first on my mind.  Why not use the "Hero" from the original card?  After all, isn't Mom a hero too?!  Since my mom wasn't in the military, the dog tags had to go.  Instead, the pearl opaques took form for the necklace.  Lucy paper provided the squares below and the color scheme.  Our Color-Ready Cork Alphabet provided the letters for the word.

Next, I had teacher appreciation week to get ready for.  I like the look and feel my Mother's Day card gives, so I want to modify that one.  I did think about keeping the "hero" for my teachers, but compared to Mom -- well, there isn't a comparison.  The word had to change.
I went with the pearl necklace but, as you can see, I added the apple charm.  The ruler I stamped from a retired stamp set Into the Month of August (the apple came from there too).  The letters are from the Irresistibles Lots of Dots Alphabet.

To create the necklaces, I took a 3.5" circle and folded it (not in half though).  Once I liked the arc, I used the circle as a template adding the opaques to the edge.  I started in the middle and worked my way toward the top of the card adding smaller opaques as I went along.

Pretty cool!
