Thoughtful Thursday 6/23/2016

I'm at convention!!  I'm super excited to learn what will be coming out in September.    I'll be learning some business wisdom too.  And having fun with fellow consultants (although I'm missing some because they couldn't be here - Katy and Heather).

We are in Orlando Florida where is it a balmy 90 degrees with 70% humidity. I'll check in with you later!

Gift Card Holders - coffee and softball

As neat as it was making the coaches thank you cards, I think I had more fun making holders for the coach gifts and helper gifts.

This first gift holder was for our team photographer.  Yup, it's a coffee gift card.  At first I was going to make this a card that opened upward, and I'd have the gift card on the inside.  Instead, I cut the top off, added adhesive along the three sides, and inserted the gift card.  I added some grey to the left side to add shadowing.

The cup is from the Artistry Cricut Collection.  Anne has a heart of gold, so that's why the heart got gold glitter paper.

Here I took the pillow box (from Art Philosophy) and added the coffee cup.  Why, because Ken LOVES his coffee.  Inside the pillow box is his gift card. Silver and Black Shimmer Trim are behind the cup.

Coach Dom found his sports store gift card inside this softball themed pillow box.

Remember that the next time you give a gift card, it can be given in something fun.  : )

Thoughtful Thursday 6/16/2016

I was at the STEAM Festival before the San Diego Fair opened yesterday morning.  There I spoke with an indoor skydiver.  He was telling me how fun skydiving was.  I countered with I don't like free falling.  "No, no," he said.  "You don't feel like you're free falling because the speed of the plane when you jump out.  You only add about 20 mph over 4 to 5 seconds."  I had never thought about that before.  Skydiving to me has always been like Tower of Terror, and something to be avoided.  I don't need my stomach outside my mouth!

Then I told him I'd like to hang glide.  "Now THAT's on my bucket list."
He, of course, said no way.  "That's way too close to the ground!"

When I walked away and later thought about the conversation, I thought about perception.  My perception of skydiving certainly changed.  Mind you, I still have no desire to free fall from a plane.  But the thought isn't as disturbing to me.

Look again at a situation in life, or at someone whom you've pigeon holed as a type of person.  Maybe by looking at it from a different perspective, it's not so bad!

Peanut Butter Cookies are the Bomb!!

I've always loved peanut butter.  And peanut butter cookies are one of my favorites.  Happy Peanut Butter Cookie day!  I knew it was special enough for it's own day!!  : )

I baked up a batch of my childhood recipe and LOVED them!  I've seen some yummy pictures of cookies with other items in the cookie (mine are straight PB - crunchy of course).  I may have to adventure out and try one of those recipes.  Naaaah!

Problem is that I don't think I want to tell you what's in these.  They are too good!  Somethings are better not known as a consumer.

Eat at Peanut Butter Cookie today!!

Softball Thank You Cards

Recreational softball ended a few weeks ago.  Cards were needed for the team party.  Surprisingly, I had an idea of what I wanted them to look like.

Would you like to guess our team color?!  I did have to keep the softball in true color.  : )

These are 6" x 6" cards and come from Originals.  The pattern is called Side Focus and can be found on page 23.

I really like the industrial look the staples brought to this card.  The cards are for male coaches, so I thought it was a good addition.

This card is for the head coach who put the most time into coaching.  I wanted to set it off from the other two.  I did that with the Whisper cardstock replacing the Black cardstock.  I also added the simple word, "Many".  Simple changes make a statement.

Thoughtful Thursday 6/9/2016

Congratulations, Lindsey, on your 8th grade promotion!!  Your schooling is about half way over!  We are SUPER proud of you.

That's good and all, but I'd like to share with you this saying from Walt Disney...
Why this quote?  Next week you'll be embarking on high school cross country.  And of course, in the fall, high school!

Believe in yourself.  Have fun with this new adventure.  Enjoy it all - the good as well as the bad.  I'm very excited for you, and am glad you are daring to do XC.

Calypso meets Color Dare and Addicted to Stamps

Try this on for size...  This card was created for Color My Heart Color Dare #196 as well as Addicted to Stamps and More!

What makes this card special (besides me making it  :) )?  This card was inspired from Make it from Your Heart volume 2 pattern #21 sample.

The background and texture paper is from our Calypso paper packet.  The bottom right (cotton candy striped) is one of the PML "cards" from the packet.  I used this instead of the white triangle outline on black B&T paper because it wouldn't look as colorful.  Each were cut 1" x 1".

Each B&T was backed with 1 1/8" piece of Black cardstock.  Opposite corners were cut with the Corner Rounder.

Oh, the saying Black cardstock was cut at 1 1/8" x 2 3/8".  The White Daisy cardstock was cut at 1" x 2 1/4".  "Birthday wishes" was stamped with Lagoon ink while the stars were stamped in Pear ink.

Honey cardstock (cut at 3 7/8" x 5 1/8") was layered on top of Black cardstock (cut at 4" x 5 1/4").  The 1" x 1" squares are placed 1/8" apart and from the edge of the Honey cardstock.  Then  everything was raised with Thin 3D Foam.  The saying was additionally raised with Thin 3D Foam.

Finally, the card was finished off with Clear Sparkles.

For Color my Heart Color Dare, the following colors - ALL and ONLY - are to be used

Our Current ChallengeThis site seems like a good place for a challenge (like I'm not challenged enough with time).  I lucked out trying it for the first time with the challenge as anything goes.  What does that mean?  It means I can do anything!  :)

How crazy is this?  Addicted to Stamps and More challenge is also #196!!  How cool!  Okay, okay, I'm easily amused.

Thoughtful Thursday 6/2/2016

This quote is for my daughter Amber...  This past weekend, Coach had her leading off.  I believe Amber is a good lead-off hitter because she has a good eye and is patient.  So far, she's been on base the majority of her at-bats either by a hit, an error, or a walk.  She finds a way on!

Friday she was on base 100% of the time.  Saturday and Sunday she was still on, but not 100% of the time.  Monday she had a couple of rough games - still on, but not what she had been doing.  After the tournament ended, she asked Coach to possibly move her down in the order.  She didn't feel as if she did a good job.

It's hard doing something new and takes you out of your comfort zone.  It gets easier the more you do it, though.  I hope Coach keeps her as lead-off.  There is still no better (my opinion).  The coaches have confidence in you, Amber.  Now it's your turn to gain that confidence.  No one will bat 1000 over the course of a season.  Go, Baby!
