Eclipse Birthday Card

I've see these cards on Pinterest and Facebook.  Well, I finally made time to make one!  This was for my Cardaholics group with the challenge of a birthday card.  I was inspired by the colors of Central Park paper packet.

I used our Thin Cuts - Block Alphabet (Z3386) for this.  I thought about using the Cricut, but decided it would be more accurate making them the "slower" way.  Even though it might sound like it took a long time, it wasn't really that bad.  Let me explain how I made my card...

The scene is on 3.5" x 4.75" and is backed by Pacifica cardstock (X5968) that measures 3.75" x 5".  First, create 2 masks of the balloon.  The balloon came from the stamp set accompanying the Art Philosophy Cricut Collection, but any balloon will do.  Why create two?  Well, because you'll want to cover two balloons at once to create the pattern.

I stamped all of the Glacier (Z2841) balloons first.  The I masked those (one at a time) to stamped the Poppy (Z2852) balloons.  I stamped one on scrap White Daisy cardstock too.  Then, I masked both of those colored balloons to stamp the Willow (Z2807) ones.  Looking at the "W" is a great example why you need two masks.  Finally, I stamped the Lemon (Z2808) balloons.  I tried not overlapping that one but did to go between the two Willow balloons (again 2 masks).

Next, I added the balloon strings.  I had to put the mask back on a few times.  And I added a string to my scrap balloon.

My Cuttlebug came out after the last step.  I laid "WISH" out and when I was happy, I added painters tape to the letters with overlapping tape.  NOTE: you'll want to have clearance on the top and the bottom of the Thin Cuts to poke the letters out.  If your painter's tape is wide, cut it down.  I didn't want them to separate and have to build the word each time.  I've since learned that  if you have Cling Wrap plastic wrap - the one that's sticky on one side - that could be used instead of the painter's tape.  It's probably better too, since you can see through it.

Position the "WISH" onto the stamped paper securing it in place with the overlapping tape.  Run through the machine and poke out your letters.  NOTE: if you are making more than one of these cards, make sure your word stays with it's matching background!

Once the letters are cut, they're ready to have 3D foam tape (Z1151) added to the back.  I used the regular height for this (and the balloon).  The stamped part was adhered to the Pacifica cardstock which, in turn, was adhered to a card base.  Then "A BIRTHDAY" was stamped so it could be lined up with the edge of the "W" in Pacifica (Z2892) ink.  The letters were put back in their respective hole.  The balloon received the thin 3D foam dots (Z3341)on the balloon, but the end of the balloon was adhered to the card using Bonding Memory Glue (Z553).  The final step was adding the Central Park Sequins (Z4178).

Done!  My take of the Eclipse card.  : )

Convention 2016 Roomie Gift

Would you like to receive this as a gift?  Making it is pretty simple, especially if you have Close to my Heart's Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge (retired).  If you don't, you can make modifications.

First of all, these cards were inspired by Denice Park and Linda Case.  Years ago, they gave me a print out of the cards they made.

These cards are the same cut but different colors.  The colors are Pear, Honey, Hollyhock, and Lagoon.  The flowers, though two designs, are Sapphire and Champagne.  The card bases are Kraft paper.  Matching Kraft envelopes (not shown) were cut from the cartridge too.

The focal circle is raised with Thin 3D foam (it's kind of hard to tell from the pictures).





Before I get into the details of the sizes and such of the cards, let me show you the holder.

Cashmere ink was used to sponge edge distress all sides of the holder and the White Daisy belly band.  Sapphire ink was used to stamp the saying (Bitty Birthday - M1144 - retired).

Belly band is 1.5" x 9" and is scored at 2 3/8", 3", 6 5/8", and 7.25".  Be aware: the band will fit the holder in one direction and not the other.

Here is a close-up picture of the flowers.

These were cut from page 70.  Cut at 2.5" (honey), 2.25" (hollyhock), and 2" (lagoon).  The simple flowers can be found at <cupcake><font><shift>.

Once they are rolled, they are kept together by putting a blob of Liquid Glass on the bottom. Rather than holding it in place with my finger (the center tends to want to pop out), I put an  acrylix block on top each flower.

The leaves are from page 59 or <petal2><shift> and cut from Pear cardstock.


So, like I said, each card is the same.  I changed the background color, the flower types, and the sayings.

This flower is on the Lagoon and Honey card.  It is from page 29 <flower6><shift>.  The outline is from the same key but is <flower6><layer><shift>.  Sapphire is the base of the flower, as is the ink for the saying, Bitty Birthday(M1144 - retired).  Inkblot (D1660) stamped in Cashmere adds some more interest.

This flower is on the Pear and Hollyhock cards.  It can be found on page 50 <flower8><shift>.  Outline is <flower8><layer><shift>.

The mat is from <square7> found on page 39. The card base is <square7><card>, also found on page 39.  The envelopes, 4" in height,  for these four cards are back on page 29 <flower6><font layer><shift>.  Finally, the circle is 2.25" and is from page 21.



Did I miss anything?  Yes.  Each card has White Twine with a bow along the seam.  And here they are all together.  : )

Gift Card Holders - coffee and softball

As neat as it was making the coaches thank you cards, I think I had more fun making holders for the coach gifts and helper gifts.

This first gift holder was for our team photographer.  Yup, it's a coffee gift card.  At first I was going to make this a card that opened upward, and I'd have the gift card on the inside.  Instead, I cut the top off, added adhesive along the three sides, and inserted the gift card.  I added some grey to the left side to add shadowing.

The cup is from the Artistry Cricut Collection.  Anne has a heart of gold, so that's why the heart got gold glitter paper.

Here I took the pillow box (from Art Philosophy) and added the coffee cup.  Why, because Ken LOVES his coffee.  Inside the pillow box is his gift card. Silver and Black Shimmer Trim are behind the cup.

Here are the details from my workshop.

Left Side of the Tray-
Spotted paper cut from B&T paper to 3.5" x 2.5".  White Daisy CS cut to 3" x 2" and stamped with saying in Black ink.

The circles are cut from Art Philosophy Collection (much better than trying to cut a perfect circle by hand) at indicated dimensions (on stamp set).  They are stamped in Lagoon, Honey, and second generation Pear.

Green B&T is PML trimmed down to 3.5" x 2.5".

Right Side of the Tray -
The striped paper is from the PML cards from the paper packets, trimmed down to 3.5" x 5 1/8".  The picture will be 3" x 4 5/8"
The background of the circles is cut 3.5" x 2.5".    Circles stamped in Honey, Lagoon, second generation Lagoon, and Pear.

Black shimmer trim runs the length of the saying and PML card.  The Lagoon circle is adhered directly to the base while the Honey circle has been risen with Thin 3D Foam, and the second generation Pear has been raised with 3D Foam.





All of the sparkles were clear sparkles and colored with Black ShimHam Marker on the storage tray.

April 2016 Stamp of the Month Sample

Before the end of the month happens, let me share my Stamp of the Month card.  I made this card when I was working on the Color Dare #187 (greens and white).

This stamp is another good one to have.  As you can see, it's got lots of different types of cameras.  Buying this stamp set now is a good thing.  A purchase like this one reminds me of Costco.  You have to buy the item while you are there because it probably won't be there the next time you go.

This stamp set will only be available until the end of April (as will all stamp sets in the Seasonal Expressions 1 booklet), so don't wait too long to shop!

And now for the card...

I made this card when I was working with the greens for a Color Dare challenge.  The card base is Topiary cardstock.  The background swirls are from Love Life (D1482 - available through July 31) stamped in Sweet Leaf ink (Z2153).

The frame for "Smile!" is from the set Crafted with Love (B1399 - available through July 31) in Topiary ink (Z2155), while the word is stamped in Black ink.

The black glitter underneath is Black Shimmer Trim (Z1809).  I took my Scallop Punch (Z1851) to the trim (that's because I didn't have Glitter Paper when I made this).

The other neat thing about this card are the sequins.  I took our Black ShinHam Marker (Z2446) to the Silver Sequin Assortment (Z2013) and colored the sequins!  Don't be afraid to try that.  : )

Artiste's Cricut Collection - Rectangular Box revisited

Some time ago, I made this rectangular box, and I told you it would look good in Sangria!  I couldn't help but make them with both sides of the paper.  : )

Don't they look very different?  Same paper and same colors!

Let's look a little deeper, shall we?!

The boxes themselves are 11.5" in WIDTH (which in turn makes the height 10.85" by default) and can be found on page 44 in Artiste Collection (Z3170) Booklet.

The speech bubbles are cut at 1.75" (as per the holder) and can be found on page 65.  They are stamped with Cocoa ink (Z2114).  The stamp is one from the Collection, by the way.  And there are other very suitable choices.

The flowers and leaves are from the Art Philosophy Collection (Z3171).  The smaller flower is on page 39 and is cut at 1.5" while the larger flower is on page 29 and is cut at 2".  The leaves are cut at 1", found on page 59, and cut out of Fern cardstock (X5777).  I chose not to stamp them, but there is a leaf stamp in the Pretty Petals set that you can use.

On to assembling the boxes...  All of the leaves and the speech bubble are adhered directly to the box.  The smaller flower is mounted with Thin 3-D Foam tape (Z2060) and the larger flower is mounted with 3-D Foam tape (Z1151).  Having the different heights adds dimension to the project.  I like to adhere the decorations before I fold everything so I have a flat surface to work with, so I did that before moving to the next step.

I like to use our Base and Bling Adhesive Strips (Z1904) for constructing the 3-dimensional projects (in my experience this is the best thing to use).  The double-sided strip adhesive is super strong, and they can be cut to length easily.  There are four places that need this adhesive (you'll understand when you cut it out).

And that's where the two boxes' similarities end.  So let's look at the one on the left first.


 Instead of stamping the flower with Pretty Petals stamp set, I cut the flowers out using our Paper Fundamentals.  It's hard to see that the Eggplant flower has some texture to it (small squares).  I could have used the other side which would have shown the white squares.  Similarly, the smaller flower is cut using Pomegranate paper.  This time I used the back side and the double chevron shows.  The papers are very rich from this Enchantment (Z3126) Paper Packet.  You get 2 sheets of each of 10 colors - in this case, Eggplant, Sapphire, Peacock, New England Ivy, Fern Saffron, Goldrush, Poppy, Pomegranate, and Ruby.

The box is finished with Sequins from the Gold Sequins packet (Z2012).  The flowers got double sized sequins.

The flowers were cut from Colonial White cardstock.  I chose the "darker" of the whites because of the Sangria paper.  The tones within the paper call for the Colonial White.

The Pretty Petals stamp set (C1599 - and only available through July 31, 2016) was used for the flowers.  The larger flower was stamped using Poppy (Z2652) ink while the smaller flower was stamped in Eggplant (Z2647) ink.

This box was finished with the Red Enamel Gems (Z3090) at various places.





And there you have it!  Put a little treat inside, give it away, and brighten someone's day.  : )

Artiste Cricut Collection - Rectangular Box + Art Philosophy Flowers

I'm so sorry I didn't share this with you when I made it (that was quite some time ago when I wasn't posting as consistently).  Anyway, you'll use the technique with different paper (if you don't have Brushed paper left).

The box came from the Artiste Collection, as did the saying.  The flowers are stamps from the Pretty Petals (C1599) set.  The flowers were stamped in Canary and Cranberry, but cut from the Art Philosophy Collection.  The saying was also stamped in Cranberry.  The leaves are cut from Juniper cardstock (from Art Philosophy).

The paper and Topiary Chevron ribbon are both retired.  The flowers are finished off with Green Enamels (also retired).

I think this would look just as good in Sangria colors.  I'm going to have try that!

Holiday Gift Basket

For the past three years, my daughters' middle school has put on a Holiday Party and Auction to raise funds for technology on campus.  This year I decided to assemble a basket of gifts and holders.  I also included a workshop certificate.

Hopefully the basket sells decently!

Zoe Workshop Updated

Zoe was the paper packet being featured in September's workshop.  Unfortunately, the stamp set was already discontinued.  Don't fret!  In with current stamp sets, the papers are the same, the feel is almost the same, and the look is refreshing.  : )

 The replacement stamp sets are awesome and versatile stamp sets.  Ones I think any stamper would want?  Who me, biased?  Of course, because I have both sets.  : )  Let me show you the sets, and then tell me with a straight face they aren't awesome!

The Girls' Camp Cards

I mentioned on my Facebook page that my girls went to camp for the week.  They wanted to have their cards for the week with them because they don't always get it in the mail (something about the girls not passing it back to them).  Anyway, I procrastinated making the cards - I only had months!  The good thing, though, is that since I waited, I got to use Zoe paper for the cards.

I took my Originals how-to program, one sheet of Zoe, and the coordinating papers (Slate, Whisper, Sorbet, Sweet Leaf, Glacier, and Daisy White).  Looked at the "at a glance" section of Originals, and cut my papers.  All the cards are 3" x 3".  Perfect for a little note.

I didn't do any extra "work" on the cards.  No distressing (even though some could do with it).

This first card uses a punch of color with the Pacifica flower.  The flower and the leaves (Juniper) were Cricut Cuts from the Art Philosophy cartridge.  You can see that you're not restricted to the colors on the zip-strip of the background and texture paper.  The center of the flower is sporting two sequins from the Silver Sequin package (Z2013).  When it still needed something, I took out my Mini Stapler (Z2027) and wham!  I love those staples (first time on a card - definitely not the last time)!

I knew I wanted to make 3" x 3" cards, but I fell in lust with the 6" x 6" design of this card.  No worries, I just divided the measurements by 2".  The butterfly and saying are from Your Own Kind of Wonderful (D1627) stamp set.  I colored the butterfly with Peacock Green (Z2461), then removed some of the color with the Colorless Blender (Z2469), and then added Turquoise Blue (Z2465) and a touch of Light Orange (Z2455).  The dots are colored with Pastel Green (Z2459).  To prop the wings, I cut very small slivers of Thin Foam and put them on either side of the body.  Flaxen Extra Thick Twine (Z3036) finishes off the card.

I fussy stamped the You are Loved part.  That saying is on one straight stamp.  I carefully inked the "Loved" on the inkpad (the very corner).  If any ink got on the other words, I would have wiped it off.  Then I stamped "love", cleaned the stamp, and repeated the process, being careful not to ink the "loved".  Perfect!

These are basically the same card.  I just doodled a little differently on the two.  This card reminds me of a retro beach.  The retro comes from the colors - Glacier and Sorbet.  The beach is from the flowers, which came from Happy to be Friends (C1605).  The "for someone" and "special" come from the set Finding the Words (B1646).  I added a little bling on the flowers from the Brown and Tan Sparkles (Z1753 - going away at the end of the month).  The center strip has been raised with 3D foam.

Squares and Overlay page 65

Next up is this diddy.  If you wanted to, you could add some ink to the Whisper paper on the right.  But here you can see what clean lines look like.  The pop of Sorbet color of the flower just makes me smile.  The flower and the saying are from the stamp set Have a Happy Day (D1616).  That stamp set and these colors make me so happy, that's what this month's workshop is going to feature!  The flower is raised with 3D foam tape.

Last but not least, is my Hello card.  The stamps are once again from Have a Happy Day (D1616).  I used another pop of Pacifica for the flowers.  The center image is first generation while the other two are second generation.  In this large picture, I added tone on tone chevrons to the band.  The below picture is the with and without that stamping.  I still don't know which one I prefer!  The chevrons needed to be the same ink color as to not compete too heavily with the background paper and make you want to barf.  Because it is subtle, I believe mission accomplished.

So now the girls will each get there own set of cards.  Mike and I wrote something for each day.  I can't wait to explore more!  Hopefully I'll remember to pick the girls up at the end of the week.  : )







Project My Life cards into Greeting Cards

I thought I should share with you some of the cards we'll be making at this month's workshop.  We will be transforming many of the Project My Life (PML) cards into greeting cards.  Would you like to join us?

Workshop dates are Monday April 27th and Tuesday April 28th from 7 to 9 pm.  We will start making our 25 cards, but I highly doubt anyone will finish.  Even Miss Speedy ;)  That's why I'll be emailing those who buy the kit a file with instructions so the cards not finished can be completed at home.  Heck, you don't need to come at all if that's your desire.

Here are 12 of the 25 cards you'll be making. Your kit will contain the whole Hopscotch PML cards, 25 card bases with envelopes, and the paper pieces cut (you'll be cutting the PML cards) so all you have to do is assemble (don't get too excited... you'll have to cut some of the cards up -- like the stars on the upper left card).  Cost to you is $45 (plus shipping if appropriate).

Artfully Sent "Q"

Here are some more Artfully Sent samples - let's check in with Gail Vought's samples.  The "q" key is found on page 11 and depicts owls, branches, and a tree.

Gail used Seaside paper packet (X7192B) and colors to adorn this Scene card.  The belly, eyes, and beak of the owl are cut out and Gail chose to back them with Teal Glitter Paper (Z1991), Black cardstock (1386), and Desert Sand Cardstock (in Seaside paper packet).  She accessorized the card with aqua dots (Z1853) and Baker's Twine (Z1921).

One thing that distinguishes Gail's artwork is the incorporation of black.  With this card, Gail outlined the owl.

 Keeping with the black accents, Gail uses Black cardstock under the Brush Paper (X7190B) and again outlines the branch and leaves.  Where did the branch and leaves come?  They are the negative cuts from the <Pocket Card><shift> option of the "q" key.  She could incorporate the other part into a card front or on a layout.

The flowers (page 29 and 70) and black border (pg 63 with holes punched) are from the Art Philosophy Collection  which can be purchased as well.  If you don't have this cartridge, you are missing out on 700 basic shapes, tags, borders, 3D flowers, and more.

This final example is on the Sleeve option.  Gail again used Brushed paper, and outlined with black pen.  And she once again used the negative cuts to add dimension to the pocket card.  Since it's narrower, I believe she used the cuts from the Sentiment card.  It looks like she also had the branch cut smaller and then only used a portion up above where you see "HELLO" -- very creative!

Where can you find "HELLO"?  That word is just one of 700 images found on the Artbooking Collection (Z1906), and found on page 39.  Obviously, Gail likes all four of our Cricut Collections.  I don't think I could pick out a favorite cartridge either!

Getting Ready for Winter in October

I know it's a little early for the holidays.  In fact, I don't like to hear Christmas music until after Thanksgiving.  I don't want to cheat our other holidays of their lime-light.

However, sometimes I just have to break out the goodies early.  This month at Close to my Heart, the Stamp of the Month is a good one. 

Do you see all that red?  The red means there is a Cricut cartridge that goes with the stamp images!  In this case it's Art Philosophy (Z1686).  This stamp set is only available until the end of the month -- October 31, 2014.

Here's one example of using the stamp set with the pillow box (also found on Art Philosophy).

I used a background texture paper from the Snowhaven paper packet (X7188B), Glacier cardstock that comes in the paper packet, and Cranberry ink (Z2116) to create this pillow box.  I added some Silver Sequin Assortment (Z2013) as a finishing touch.  The bear is mounted with foam tape.

Timberline Workshop on the Go

Since we had a trip planned to North Lake Tahoe, I thought the Timberline WOTG would be an appropriate layout -- road trip and no snow.  So here it is ready for pictures!

There were two tricky parts to this layout.  One was making sure my Cricut was set to Real Dial Size.  And the other was remembering that the pictures and background and texture (B&T) paper are moved slightly above the bottom of the center section.  (there is a different B&T paper just above the "s, oo, es," etc of "dsdoodles.blogspot.com".  I had to pull the papers up and reposition them because of that mistake!

Anyway, I like this workshop because we are exploring our world.  Since there is no snow, we are planning other activities instead of just skiing.  It'll also be great family-time.  : )

Making 3D items using Cricut cutouts

Carly from Close to my Heart shows you how easy it can be to go from flat to fabulous!  Take a gander.



Why not surprise your loved ones with some heart garland.  Valentine's day too soon?  What about some flowers for Spring?  Or my friend Heather's favorite holiday - St. Patrick's Day.  You can even get super fancy and weld 3 hearts in Cricut Craft Room to make shamrocks

Look through your Cricut booklets to see all of the possibilities!  Some suggestions include:

Art Philosophy cartridge has lots of flowers, hearts, a couple of birds and butterflies, and a cupcake for a birthday.

Artiste has... well, Artiste is mostly 3D items anyway.  But it also has more hearts, cupcake, and a balloon.

Artbooking even has images you can create 3 dimensional elements from.  I'm going for the owl on page 85!  Look for that post coming soon.

2013 CTMH Convention Roomie Gifts

I gave potted flowers for my roommate gifts this year.  I had been inspired by something similar when I was at a physical therapy appointment.

Okay, the coloring isn't the greatest because the paper I used was from Dream Pop.  Bright pinks and yellows!

Everything came from the Cricut cartridges Art Philosophy and Artiste.  The candies are Rolos, Hershey Milk Chocolate kisses, and Hershey Cookies 'n' Cream kisses.

There are two "types" of flowers.  The Kisses flowers are the same but with different paper.
It looks like I goofed and didn't write the cut sizes in my notes so I'm going to guess - you will want to verify for yourself though -- sorry about that!

I colored skewers Juniper (leaves were cut from Juniper paper) and then glued the leaves around the skewer with liquid glass.  The flowers were glued together and then glued with liquid glass to the top of the skewer.  I held the skewer until set.  The following day I glue dotted the candy on.

These skewers were colored Sweet Leaf to match the paper.  The flower and stem were glued on with liquid glass, and then the Rolos were added the next day.

Other items:
I've already mentioned the skewers.  Mine were 8" long thaen cut in half.  Modify yours as you see fit.  I grabbed some florist green blocks that I cut down to size for the pot, then glued some brown crimped paper to the top of the block.  Insert skewers.

I don't recommend traveling with this project.  They weren't as pretty as pictured here, and were a little tattered.  I had taken them apart for the flight and assembled them at the hotel.  It wasn't my problem as to how my roomies got them home!  ;-)

How fun is it to receive the majority of ingredients to make some really yummy cookies?!  Recipe choices include Potato Chip, Chocolate Pecan Chewies, and Oatmeal Raisin Spice Cookies.

You never have enough birthday cards on hand. This colorful one can be used for guys and gals!

This purse is a perfect match for the five cards from above. If you didn't want to make the cards to go into it, the strap closure would finish the project off.

A Little Birdie

You may have seen some owls going around lately. This in my version of a little birdie bag. You could add a note that says, "a little birdie told me..." How fun!

The diaper is so versatile with the Avonlea paper packet.  The word "congrats" is in the Avonlea Teal.

Mother's Day Box

My eleventh project was featured last month during the April Blog Hop.














And finally, my graduation card that was inspired by Dawn Olchefske who was inspired in turn by Pam Hoffman.  The tassel was done by another woman, Glenda Calkins. I don't have a picture of that but will have one when I describe how it was done.

Sorry for such a long post!  I hope you enjoyed looking at my projects.  I'll be starting to put our Winter workshop projects together in couple of months after the new Idea Book is revealed.  :)
